Jynx was invited to run with the CKC 2003

However, due to her age - and the fact that she would have to jump 26", we
declined.

Jynx was a flashy split-faced tri colored lass. She was a
drivey little thing, measuring 19" at the shoulder, weighing in at 32
lbs.
Jynx was the gal I used as the foundation for Standsure Border Collies. She's was my
"Spiorad Cairdeach" (kindred spirit), always giving me 200%!! She
had a wonderful temperament and great personality. She was a serious little worker who does it all, and
had a highly competitive nature. She played to do well and win. She was outgoing with others . .
. as long as there wasn't agility/flyball/sheep etc on the go.
From puppy hood, her and I bonded very deeply and developed a
close working relationship with a mutual respect for each other. Trialling her in any venue is a real
high! I would come out of a ring and it would take a few moments to come down from the heights she made
me reach. She was everything I ever wanted in a single package and was my dream
dog.
She was easy to train, and was always game to go . . . as long as
it was something she enjoys. She far preferred the speed and movement in things like agility and
flyball over the methodical precision work of the obedience ring. She generally scored in
the low to mid 190's in obedience, preferring the Utility ring over all. She loved all the exercises
except the heeling, which she tolerated as a means to the "fun" end of Utility. She had placed High In
Class several times. She was shown in obedience very limited as her mom's first love is
Agility!!!
And .............. in Agility she EXCELLED!! She had won the
Top Open Height Division, Top (insert level here) Dog and Top Dog Overall honors in many a trial, in NADAC,
USDAA and AAC venues. She made me look like I knew what I was doing, even when things were going
desperately wrong! Her ability to "do what I meant, not what I was saying or what my body happens to be
telling you" was incredible. How the heck she knew the course went that way, when I didn't . . . I'll
never know!!
Her true love, though, was Herding. She was a great little
sheepdog, powerful in eye and presence, yet not sticky on her stock. She worked with a smooth gait,
responding well to verbal commands. When she made a decision against a command I have given, rest
assured it was the correct move!! She was a good driver and loved the shed. Give her the "shed
this one" command, and she would honed in on that particular sheep, removing it from the herd, generally,
with little help from me. She was also strong on the penning.
Overall, she was a dog who made her handler look very talented
...... and I love her for that!
At the 2005 AAC Nationals, it was clear that the arthritis in
Jynx's one paw was bothering her, so I made the heartbreaking decision to retire her from competitive
agility. We still played FEO in Starters classes, right up until a month before she passed
away.
Jynx was my kindred spirit, my heart and my soul, she was one of
the great loves of my life, and I miss her every day.
